Bob, thanks for the picture.  I have one comment:  Good GAWD!!!

I'd bet 99.99% that the "H" on your PM-23 is a home brew concoction of 
someone who never set foot in a Hallicrafters facility...

There's absolutely no way THAT is a production version of the PM-23 speaker.

How is it attached?  Hopefully it is easily removable.  There WERE many 
PM-23 shipped that did not have any H on them, so removing it would be a big 
improvement.
