Should work just fine. There might even be some
convenient holes in the cap frame that you can attch
to but just be careful about screw lengths. You sure
don't want a rotor plate to catch a screw and short
the cap, or worse, bend the plate.
And now that you mention it I have also seen that web
page showing a modified S-76.
This is a very useful mod, but it does interfere with
the "originality" of the radio. In this case it does
not matter.
Something else you should consider is putting a 100
KHz calibrator aboard. You can get B plus and
filaments off the auxiliary connector on the back, and
I think the pictures that your radio already has a
plugged hole near the receive-standby switch that you
could use for a switch to turn on the calibrator.
