[Hallicrafters] FPM-300

Having gotten this FPM-300 working - I'm wondering if the instability of the VFO is assumed, or if this one just wanders more than most.  With a fixed carrier from a VERY GOOD signal generator (AN/USM-323), one can hear the note vary up and down - not a long excursion, but enough to where you could certainly be annoyed.  I tried retightening the mounting hardware, cleaning the rotor points of the tuning variable, a tiny drop of CRAMOLIN (100% vs. 5% DeOxit) on each end, and resoldering of all of the joints which have anything to do with VFO & such.  It's better, but still wanders.  Ideas please?
