This is my second attempt to send this message. For some reason, a
disclaimer was added and the neut technique deleted. No, it wasn't meant
as a spoof. If it doesn't work this time, my apologies.

Hi Folks,
A while back I posted here saying that I was having a difficult
time neutralizing the finals in my HT-44. Received lots of help
and suggestions from the folks here (thanks!). It turns out that
the neut cap was badly mistuned. The best method to tune it
properly was found in the 1964 ARRL handbook, and here's
what it said to do;
Disconnect plate and screen power from the finals. Use a
loosely coupled loop at the 'low' end (RF wise) of the finals
tank coil. Fire up the transmitter, peak the drive, then tune the
neut cap for minimum voltage on an ascilloscope (connected
to the loosely coupled coil). I had also tuned the finals tank
circuit to resonance using a dip meter, but not sure if that
was critical.
This method worked perfectly, and required no additional
tuning. The key seems to be that the finals were in place,
and the filaments lit, so the interelectrode capacitance
was in play.
