I remember Gateway Electronics well. I lived in St. Louis back in the
1960's and early 19070's. Gateway had a store in a very run down part of
St. Louis. At that time they had a lot of mil surplus along with other
surplus things. For someone building amps and assorted other pieces of ham
gear, you could find about anything you needed. I still am using a couple
of amps that I built with power transformers, tuning capacitors, relays, and
other parts purchased at Gateway. I also acquired most of my stock pile of
R-390 and R-390A spare parts at Gateway back then.
