Chris that trim is held on with 3 screws and nuts; at least on my 11/41 
production version.

If it is dirty but unmarred wash it with a bit of liquid dishwashing soap 
and very warm water, nothing caustic as it will result in spotting. 
Dishwasher soap such as Cascade is caustic.

Then polish and buff as necessary. You can do it by hand if you dont have a 
wheel and experience on some scrap first.
Finish up with Meguiars "All Metal Polish"  or 3M makes a nice spray on 
version. Whatever you do dont use wax.
