Chuck,

Oh, the ill fortunes of the ones who really did the thinking! Sigh.

<tongue-in-cheek ON>

Maybe it was good though. I can just see it now: popular usage of the term
Steinmetz as the unit of frequency leads to "Steins", and this derails so
many technical meetings as to become troublesome when the hard working
engineers and technicians become thirsty for beverages traditionally served
in steins that they all quit and repair to the nearest pub, with no
further work accomplished that day.

Headline:
"Unfortunate choice of commemorative term by the IEEE and ANSI leads to
decline in UhMurrican technical competence especially in the electrical and
electronic engineering fields."

"We had no idea it would have this effect" said one senior ANSI official
who asked to remain anonymous.

By the way, if you want to know more about standard units and such, see:

http://physics.nist.gov/cuu/Units/units.html

Where we learn that the unit for frequncy is "hertz" (uncapitalized), and
is measured in units of the reciprocal of the second. In this table, all
the units named after famous persons are not capitalized.

or read this publication:

"Guide for the Use of the International System of Units (SI) "
