I picked up an S-22 (non-R) at a swapmeet yesterday. With a little TLC, it
should turn into a pretty nice set. Since it's been a while since I've worked
on a pre-war Hallicrafters, I have several questions:
1. I removed the bottom plate and see several paper caps along the back wall
that are impossible to get at. It doesn't look like it will be any easier if I
remove the back cover or the front/side assembly. What it looks like I need to
do is to remove the entire bottom. Can that be done? If so, how? I cannot
remember having this issue with my S-19 or S-20.
2. From the archives, I see a dispute as to the correct IF frequency. Am I
correct that it is 1,600 khz? I see that Rider's has 455 khz but that the
Hallicrafters sales literature says 1,600 khz.
3. What type of lamp is used for the dial lamp?
4. What do you recommend for cleaning the metal dial?
As always, thanks.
