I just received a S-53A that I am planning to restore. Upon close
examination I find that the dial is not the expected S-53A dial. The bands
are top to bottom: 1. 88 to 108 FM band, 2. 540 to 1600 AM band, 3. 1.7 to
4.5 Marine band, 4. 4.5 to 12 SW 1 and 5. 11 to 22 SW 2.

Does anyone have any idea what may have happened to this radio? The dial
glass seems to be rather difficult to replace.

Thanks,
Jim

I need the "Selectivity" knob for an SX-101A and three of the four small
skirted knobs, for "Notch Depth", "Notch Freq", and "Pointer Reset". (Old
Style)

I suppose it would be easier to find hen's teeth, but thought I'd ask
anyway.

I picked up a real nice SX-100 today. I just noticed that it doesn't have
the notch depth and notch freq controls. Also, the main tune and bandspread
knobs don't have a skirt on them. Am I right in assuming that this is a real
early SX-100? I looked for holes in the front panel, on the back side, none
there. The tube line up is a SX-100 and the front panel has an excellent
chrome panel trim and excellent knobs. I am just scratching my head on this
one. There is even a sticker on the rear apron that says Walter Ash. I
believe this was bought from that store.

Just downloaded a manual from BAMA and realize that my last post was not
entirely correct. Trying again:

I need the following knobs for an SX-101A:

1. "Selectivity" (Medium size knob, skirted, skirt marked 5KC, 3KC, 2KC,
1KC and .5KC, silver center insert)
2. "Notch Freq." (Small size knob, skirted, skirt calibration markings 50 -
54 KC(?), silver center insert).
3. "Notch Depth" (Small size knob, no skirt, with small pointer/dot (I
think), silver center insert)
4. "Pointer Reset" (Small size knob, no skirt, no pointer/dot, silver center

insert).

Sounds more like an SX-96!

I checked Chuck Dachis' book for you. He makes no mention of a SX-100
variant without the notch depth and notch freq controls. I thought the same
thing as Glen...it sounds like a SX-96...Dachis does makes mention about the
possibility that there was a SX-96 with the notch depth and notch freq
controls but he had never seen one. :-) A bona fide mystery!!

You may either have a cleverly disguised SX-96 or a cleverly disguised
SX-100... Either way, it could also be some early April 1st foolery. Hee
hee.
