Hi Joe,

Good luck with your SX-42 project.  You'll have a great receiver when 
you're finished.  The old Hallicrafters may not be state of the art in 
our day -- or even its -- but it has a great warmth and charm of its 
own.  It's the favorite radio in my shack.

I replaced every single resistor and cap in my '42, including the micas 
in the IF cans.  For the paper caps I substituted tubular polystyrenes.  
Using them to replace the braid-leaded caps worked just fine, although I 
used braid to substitute for the leads at the foil ends of those 
replacement caps. I really did it for fun, since I don't think it makes 
any difference in operation or performance.
