[Hallicrafters] Investing nonsense

I also have the "collection" disease. It started in 1994 when I decided to
recreate my original Johnson Viking Valiant/Hallicrafters SX-101 novice
station. I spent much of the month of October building operating tables and
shelves and installing outlets and coax feeds for the current collection
which takes up much of a 36X20 foot room in a new addition to our home.
Like others, I haven't sold anything though I have traded duplicates for
other items I want. I have a few items still waiting for restoration then I
hope to spend some more time constructing homebrew equipment. The smell of
solder is VERY addictive.
I think I have most of the gear I want though some day I would love to own
an SX-88. I first saw a picture of one in 1974 while looking through some
old Radio Television News magazines while awaiting the arrival of my Novice
"ticket". Halli took out a double page advertisement for this receiver and
I have wanted once since seeing the advertisement; of course I would also
love to own a large set of the Radio Television News magazines as I only
have a few from the early to mid fifties and they had some excellent ham
radio in addition to general electronics articles.
I do buy the radios to operate and enjoy and although I have had a chance to
make a large profit on several of them it would take away from the enjoyment
of the hobby. I try to clearly separate the things I do for money (job plus
some consulting activities) and keep "pure" the things I do for pleasure.
My 3 year old daughter already refers to the radios as her radios so
hopefully they will have a good home far into the future. She asked me
twice yesterday when I am going to fix the Pierson KP-81 that I am currently
in the middle of; in Anna's world pretty much everything can be fixed with
tape and/or new batteries. I wish radio restoration were that easy but of
course then it wouldn't be as much fun!
