Net (for me) this morning was totally obliterated by our local power company
doing some experiments on 3.960, then moving up... pulse rate was a
beginning 130 ppm, then dropping down, as frequency went up. I sincerely
hope it wasn't some pre-BPL stuff. None of the noise blankers or limiters
had ANY effect. HEADS UP: Ionic air cleaners are a HUGE source of wideband
noise - if you're trying to find a source, one of those junky things could
be it.
I sincerely have to agree with Rob, concerning SigGens As old man Folger
said - You get what you pay for. As a sometimes-substitute, I've used
BFO's, the 8 mHz-up VFO output from a SWAN, and the tracking-above LO from
AM table radios to make quick checks and "rough-in" tweaks on gear, when
nothing else was around, BUT - Simple - go to a hamfest - you'll find
one.
