[Hallicrafters] Signal generators et al

Hi Group, been following this thread with much interest.

Ive had a bunch of generators over the years from Eico's, Heatkits ,URM-25D
and some I can't even remember their name.

Stability of freq is of course important, but shielding, variable
attenuation control
and AM/FM capabilities should not be forgotten.

I think that any design with the new PIC's and AD/DA convertor chips is a
worthy endeavor but don't forget that all the above is important.

I use a HP8640B with all options that I bought surplus for 300 dollars and
using
that in conjunction with a little Protek 0-2 mhz audio sweep generator I can
align any boatanchor known to man with an added bonus of being able to
sweep IF's and crystal filters using the Protek ramp siganal into the FM
iinput to the 8640B.

Enough of that, would anyone venture to guess what Halli, Hammurlund and
National used on the assembly line?

One last thing, does anyone remember the old trick of using the BFO
for aligning the 50KC IF alignment in the SX-101, etc..

Going back to sleep.
