you gotta knock the plug outta the middle of the CD first to fit 45 HZ speed (DVDs are another story best saved for another time) and use one of the lil laser pointer you can buy at Radio Shack.  Reflect the light off the CD onto a mirror to a light sensitive device hooked to the MAG Phono input on you pre-amp (12AX7s).  Keep the volume low.
