I have the red/green vision problem. I never noticed what you mentioned  
about the stoplights, I simply know that the red light is always the one on top  
or to the left. I use an ohmeter to tell the difference between a 1200 ohm  
resistor and a 1 meg. For marking, I simply use the colors I CAN  distinguish.
 
I have a problem with some websites if they happen to pick the wrong colors  
for text and background. I can't read them at all. But you learn to live with  
it.
