I have come across 27 ( 100 and 400 ft. reels) of Castle newsreels
dating from 1937 (Bombing of Nanking, etc.) through 1948. During my
checkered past <g> I was involved in industrial film production both as
a cinematographer and editor. These ended up in my archives.

These are B&W silent, double perforated 16 mm. films with subtitles and
were, I believe, the home subscription series. These are original
issues, not recent duplicates. They are all by Eugene Castle (Castle
Films) and consist of several series including 7 years of the "News Of
(year)" and "News Parade".

The films when acquired had been spliced together on 1200 foot reels by
a previous owner. They have been broken down to their original release
lengths, cleaned and stored for some years in a reasonable environment.
Titles are intact but there is no SMPTE leader. It was truly fascinating
viewing these as they passed through the viewer.

The condition of the films vary from fair to very good. The stock does
not appear to be degraded.

Before they go to auction I thought I would offer them to the group. If
there is serious interest in these I can put together a (long) list of
contents over the next couple of weeks.

I am open to REASONABLE offers with one of the two following options
available:

1. As is, in individual cans (not original) and shippers. You do the
work. If needed I can offer technical assistance and possibly the loan
of a viewer and hot splicing block.

2. Cleaned, fully inspected with new leader hot block spliced.

The latter will add considerable cost to the lot as it will quite labor
intensive.

The films will be sold and - or traded as a lot only.

Dave, W5WP
