Hi Duane,
 
The slide rule part of the front dial, which is the majority of the front  
panel, is the bandspread which is calibrated for the ham bands.  The main  
tuning, which is a much smaller circular dial on the left side of the front  panel, 
is for general coverage.  It could be confusing to someone at first  glance.  
I should think that anyone using the receiver would figure that  out.
