[Hallicrafters] Chatter on the List

This list is the largest single component of my inbox as well as the
largest contributor to my trashcan. Operation here reminds me of the
net on the local repeater. For about an hour everybody chimes in with
opinions on the topic of the day, then for another hour or so a few
people carry on about all manner of stuff, most of which is of no
interest to me. With the net I can simply QRT or QSY when it ends and
not subject myself to the inane after-net chatter, but the list just
keeps on coming. If I want the wheat I have no choice but to wade
through the chaff.

This is clearly getting to be too much for some of our brothers. There
are two basic ways to improve the situation - either Duane limbers up
his Wouff Hong or the rest of us exercise some restraint. I think we
all have reservations about hanging out with the blind guy swinging a
Wouff Hong, so that leaves restraint. I offer a couple of suggestions:

Off topic posts in my opinion really do have a place here. There is a
lot of expertise and experience about all manner of things gathered here
on the list and I, for one, have no problem with asking for it. Please,
though, take it off-list at the earliest opportunity. If I need to know
more details about shipping antennas to Russia, filing for a copyright,
or conjugating Latin verbs I will ask.

Cute and witty repartee is part of the problem. We already know you are
pretty clever or you wouldn't be here - we do not require proof. My
advice is to go ahead and compose your pun, quip, or whatever, then sit
tight on it for twenty minutes or so before sending it to the rest of
us. Use that time to contemplate that most of us will likely see it as
just one more post with zero information content - and it will have your
name on it. If it passes the twenty minute test then what the heck, go
ahead and send it. If you really think it is that good then I do want
to see it! BTW, I do flush more posts than I send, hope you do the same.

Cheers, Rich, KC9GQ
