I recall early on in my radio-addiction hearing a commercial airliner
over the Atlantic with an engine fire. Think it was a 707, IIRC. Good
ol' HF AM. Of course, it was heard on an old Philco floor
model/console, but it did lead to my first SW receiver: the S-40B,
followed by a huge National RAO-7.

That was just the beginning....
