Hi Sandy,

Yes it was a Voyager. It didn't have the Skyfone in it but had an
Alpha 200. However I do have a Skyfone CA-2 that I found after we
bought the Stinson. I was our first time flying a tail dragger and it
was fun learning. My wife (who was a ground school instructor) was the
only one who ground looped it. She only damaged her pride but took a
long time to live it down because she did the ground loop at the
airport where our mechanic was based. My father in law was also a
partner in the Stinson and flew it a number of hours. My in laws
retired form their jobs in the Peoria area and moved back to TN to the
farm where my father in law grew up. So my wife and I ended up with
the Stinson. We were both getting busier at work and we discussed
selling the Stinson. We really didn't want to as we still enjoyed
flying. However one afternoon when I arrived home a phone call from
the Peoria Police Department sort of made up our mind. The Detective
asked if I owned 930... and I told him yes. He asked I I had seen the
airplane lately. I told him I flew it on saturday but this was now
Tuesday. To make a long story short someone around 4:00 AM stole the
Stinson and eventually ran it out of fuel and made a dead stick landing
outside of Redwing Mn. He got a ride into town and went into a bar and
had a couple of beers. Then said I need to go attend to my airplane. He
walked out of the bar never to be seen again. The Feds dusted the plane
for prints and my wife and I had to go get our prints on file so they
would know the difference. They never found a match and to this day we
have no idea who stole it.
Our only hope is someday someone on their death bed will go HAH guess
what I did back in 19.. and no one ever found out.
Well we had to let the Stinson sit in the hay field sit for about a
month so the farmer could cut his hay and that way our insurance
company would not have to pay any more damage to his crop.
When we got the Stinson back it was in good shape but was covered in
black stuff which was the stuff the Fed's used for getting fingerprints.
Shortly after that we decided to sell the Stinson so it could go to a
home where it would get more use. It left the Peoria area and went to
the Chicago area. A few years ago I used the search facility on QRZ to
locate the "N" number. We were all please to see it is in Alaska
probably where it is very happy! We still think about someday finding
another Stinson. However our work load has not decreased. But it is
fun on those Spring, Summer and Fall days thinking about flying through
the clouds.

Oh yes the Hallicrafters connection, I am thinking about getting a 3880
or 3885 crystal for the Skyfone and getting back on the air. Also if
anyone need a manual for a CA-2 I can supply a copy.

Thanks for listening.
