Long ago and far away, I used the "RB" series receivers at the Fleet
Anti-Submarine Warfare Center in SDIEGO.  COMTRAPAC COMMUNICATIONS to be
exact.  (Callsigns:  NPL3, RUWDE, "Belasco", and HAYO)

Those things weighed a lot of poundage, but were an engineering
tour-de'force for their time, and even in 1964.  I used to love to do code
practice from the RBA, listening to the NAVCOMMSTA at Big Jim Creek,
Washington (12 kc).

You could hear the "whistlers" (eddy-currents about the Earth), and other
phenomena.

Time was, when I could tune up a TDE from the feel alone....
