Put the numbers out there and then look at the available spectrum, the math 
is not that tuff to figure . Do you know that only 5000 logs are received 
for the CQ  DX world wide contest, the granddaddy of them all. Did you not 
know that?? But listen to the bands on that weekend, wall to wall screaming 
to the point that valid emergency traffic can't get through. Contesters in 
numbers comprise a very insignificant minority, CQ magazine admits this, but 
put just a small number on the bands for a weekend and it havoc... the 
answer , he  who wants to contest should operate in a small segment of the 
band and have fun , not the entire band.
