Yes, here is the response from Chuck Dachis to my question (Duane kindly 
acted as the
intermediary between The Oracle and me!):

On the Green lettering for the SP-44, what I have found is that most of the
Hallicrafters products of the mid and late 40s and 50s had the green
lettering including the SP-44 in my collection, and many others I have 
seen.
So, I would say the green is very common and not at all unusual.
