I have cured some sticky meters by using double sided sticky tape to pick up
any small particles. That's as far as I will go unless the meter is easily
replaceable. If it's an almost irreplaceable meter, I will send it to some
one who specializes in doing repair. Having a meter repaired is not cheap,
but it's better than spending months or years trying to find a meter or
cobbling up something to put in its place when you want to keep things
original. It's not like you can get another one made even at any price.

The risk is turning a rare but repairable meter into a rare
and unrepairable meter.
