There's a very good chance those 1N4004's are really good for a kV anyway. 
1N4007's are so cheap though, it's not worth it to buy anything else.. 
They're all made at the same time and the ones that test at 1 kV PIV are 
marked 1N4007's.  When they get the desired production quantity of 1N4007's, 
they test at 800 V.  Those are marked 1N4006 etc., down to the 100 PIV 
1N4001's.  If checked, the whole batch might be good at 1000PIV.
