Ah. A kindred soul. Don't forget that 'brevity is the soul of wit'.
No, I don't remember who said it or when, I could probably google it
and find out.
It's not so much the use of CUT as it might be the use of SELECT ALL
followed by REPLY or FORWARD. That automagically makes things rather
unenjoyable for reading, especially for us optically-challenged folk.
As for nostalgia...the closest I ever came to any of the great experiences
posted here of wandering through 'ham heaven' and trying not to drool was
when I actually got to visit the Philco Radio Lab here in Chicago, on
Irving Park Road. It's still there (!), and still filled floor-to-ceiling
(I swear on a stack of Hallicrafters) with radios, parts, miscellany
and what-not. There's a two-foot wide path through the Partz Mountains
to the service counter; that's as far as you're able to go, but the vista
was magnificent if you did a 360 gape while George Kopocko (status unknown)
checked his stock in the back. Kewl.
And yeah I shoulda saved all those Allied and Lafayette and RS and
Burstein-Applebee catalogs I sent for, darnit. I have a friend with an
old Alden's catalog that's a hoot to peruse. What were those collections
of congolmerated parts called? Proto-paks or something...
Just think what we could do if we had a Way-Back machine!
Instant Nirvana. Comes in caffeinated or non-, just add some holy smoke.
Like the man said, thanks for the memories and thanks for the ramble.
