[Hallicrafters] a good SWL receiver

My favorite SWL rigs are several.  In my home office is a ICOM R-9000 (Sherwood) and a super-sensitive Halli SX-122.  In the family room there is an occasional debate on whether to listen to the SX-100 or the SX-42 -both restored.  And for camping, there is the ICOM R-75 with KIWA modified using a Dressler DX-100 antenna.  Other radios alternated into my listening post is a JRC NRD-525, ICOM R-71 and other vintage Hallicrafters.  It is very difficult to share equal time playing such fine radios as they all have their own unique features.  Very fun though!  All base station radios alternate their antennas between the Eavesdropper and a RF Systems sloper.

I have a Drake SW8 on my bedside table and I enjoy listening to it very  
much.  It does require an external antenna for good shortwave and medium  
wave performance - 20-30 feet of wire does nicely.
