[Hallicrafters] Wax on RF Coils (SX-42)

Early I posted a request for SX-42 parts.  The reason I need them is
that I have destroyed a couple RF coil cores.  The cores are locked
with some sort of wax-like material.
Is there some general wisdom for adjusting these without damaging
them?  Perhaps a heat gun to loosen them?  They seem very fragile.....
