All good advice you've gotten, thus far. Another thing to keep in mind, is
that most of the radios with a xtal. filter require a bit of investigation
first - i.e. find the xtal frequency! Not all of the xtals. are on 455 or
456 kcs; the alignment instructions tell you how, but basically it involves
tuning one's signal generator back-and-forth across the xtal. frequency,
until one determines the EXACT passband-frequency. THAT IS THE FREQUENCY
THAT ONE ALIGNS THE I.F. ON! After you recap this critter, THEN proceed in
that direction, and use that frequency you've just figured out. Some
receivers were aligned exactly at 455 kcs, and that's fine for some stuff,
but NOT for many Hallicrafters & Nationals - I've "resurrected" a few that
appeared deaf, but were only misaligned. Good Luck, and welcome to this
