Hi Mike, Roger, Bill and Glenn, and all the others who responded :)
Thanks for the advice.......I wasn't able to find a manual for the SX-24 per-se, but I was able to find
a schematic and the SX-25 manual, which pieced together, does a pretty decent job.
So far, the resistors seem to be all within 5% of their original values, and it looks like someone
did a few resistor changes in the 60's or thereabouts. Haven't checked the caps yet, but one or
two do look a little "oily" and I plan to do the "orange drop swap" on them all ASAP.
In the meantime, I built my trap dipole today and hooked that up to the receiver, and this is what I found:
Band 1 functions perfectly - all stations where they should be on the dial, and no perceivable
drift. Great audio quality, and stable signals.
Band 2, only commercial stations heard at the beginning of the band. Didn't pick up anything past 3.1 megacycles.
Band 3, 16-13 megacycles.........no sounds at all - rest of band great from 13 to 5.5 megacycles.
BBC world, Radio Deutchland, Radio Netherlands, RCI...all the usual suspects! No sound 5.5
megacycles or below.
Band 3B no stations heard at all. Same with Band 4.
When any station is tuned in, if the AVC switch is in any of the xtal positions, I lose the station
unless I put it back to a non-xtal setting.
One of the previous owners put a fuse in the chasis, so at least it's safe from that aspect.
There's also a large capacitor mounted to the chasis from the I also replaced the AC cord
to the transformer as it was cracked and dryrotted.
The crystal is in the middle of the receiver in what looks to me like a tube socket. I'm wondering
if the crystal is in the wrong holes? It's 90 degrees to the front panel....it looks like it could
fit parallel to the front panel. Is it in the right place? The schematic is hard to follow for orientation
of the topside components.
Thanks again everyone, not just for the assistance, but also for the warm welcome :)
