Many people seem to be picking on Duane since his announcement of HCI
ending. Others come to his defense claiming people are picking on him
possibly due to his handicaps.
My issues have nothing to do with whether Duane has a handicap or not.
The issues are, and always have been, the perception that Duane
practices a double standard in his actions, a double standard that he
insists he does not have.
This is not a personal attack on Duane, rather just a clarification of
why I feel Duane has a double standard which may sometimes bring about
these verbal attacks on himself. He is free to correct my impression to
aid me in my understanding of his actions. If he does, I ask that he do
it publicly so that we all may understand his position.
The double standard is where Duane says or does something himself which
he prohibits others from doing. Here is a recent example of one of those
double standards and I think may be one of the reasons why people seem
to pick on Duane. It has nothing to do with any handicap Duane may have.

Effective as of Saturday July 1, 2006 "Hallicrafters Collectors
International", AkA "HCI", has ended. This name and logo are the
registered property of Duane Fischer, W8DBF and may not be used by any
one or any group for any reason without getting written consent first.

I just discovered a "still sealed" copy of Dave Brubeck's "Two
Generations Of Brubeck" done by Atlantic in 1974. Would you be
interested in having a copy on CD remastered by me "my way"? Several on
this list have copies of my work and I think they will affirm
that for a guy who can't see what the heck he is doing, I get the
spindell in the hole when it comes to vinyl salvation.
Now correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Dave Brubeck's "Two Generations
Of Brubeck" an album still under copywrite itself? It's been
re-released just three months ago by Atlantic as a CD. Atlantic wouldn't
bother releasing it if they had no control over its distibution, would
they? Is copywrite duration on music different than copywrite on other
material? Possibly Duane has received written permission from Atlantic
to re-master one of their albums and distribute it on his own, since he
asks the same of us (to get written permission) before using any HCI
material.
If this Brubeck album is still under copywrite and Duane has not
received any written permission from Atlantic, then Duanes double
standard is that it is not permitted for anybody to use Duane's
property, but it is perfectly all right for Duane to copy other peoples
material (like Dave Brubeck's "Two Generations Of Brubeck") and offer it
to others.
Am I wrong here?
