Jeff,
For my 2 cents worth of advise, I'll say that 99% of the Hallis (and
other tube rx's) I've owned that needed alignment, only needed it after
someone else aligned it. Most alignments can be done by replacing a bad
or soft tube. You can usually tell if it needs alignment by sticking an
alignment wand into the bottom of a slug. If it still has the factory
wax in it, it's untouched and probably in spec. I'm not saying that they
never need touching up, just 99% of the time its a soft tube or previous
alignment related. Do yourself a favor and don't unsolder trimmers or
padders to align. They were locked down with solder for a reason. If you
align then end up replacing a tube down the log, most times you will
need to re-align to the new tube. It becomes a vicious cycle every time
a tube is changed. You would be better off investing in a decent,
inexpensive, tube tester.
Good luck, George
