I totally agree Howard! In fact I have a part-time
business "Bobby Da Brain Antique Radio and Repairs". I
buy, sell, trade and repair classic/antique radio
equipment. I have been trading on E-Bay for over one
year now. Some of the classic watch phrases that put
the caution/red flag up for me are the following:
"Uses weird/odd battery and I have no idea what it
is."
My (God Bless her) hard nosed tough love Jewish mother
used to say, "If you do not know the answer, ASK!!!"
Do not get me wrong. Some sellers do not spend the
time researching things like this. Out for the fast
sell and turn-around! I must admit that my sixteen
years experience at Electronic Parts Company in
Albuquerque, New Mexico makes a difference too. Plus
four more years at Radio Shack (20 years total). It
was an EverReady 206, 9VDC but slightly larger in
diameter than a AA, same length. I bought this Sears
Eight transistor AM radio and the batteries on E-Bay.
The radio worked great.
"Is in good condition".
Physically, spiritually, electronically?
"Appears to be in working condition".
Big red flag here! what actually happened when you
turned it on (or did you?)? I know you can ask the
seller questions on E-Bay. But the more information
you can provide up front to potential sellers, the
more likely you will convince them of your knowledge
and credibility also.
