[Hallicrafters] S-38A Recap problems

I started to recap my S-38A by first replacing the line filter. It all
went well and the connections are solid. But now when I tune up and down
it starts off at a decent volume at the ends of the dial but as it gets
closer to the middle it fades away to nothing. I tried putting the old
line filter back in but it didn’t fix that problem. So now I am
wondering what’s wrong and how to fix it before I continue on.
