Actually, I have some wands of that sort, but none of them would fit through
the ventilation holes in the top of the final cage. Making one of those
holes larger just wasn't an option. I didn't know there was a smaller
version of that tool, and I did look. Anyway, my solution worked and I
still have that tool today.
On another note, I bought the SX-117 new in 1963 and still have it. I lived
in a very small town in South Dakota at the time and tried to get the HT-44,
but somehow it never happened. I'd still like to have one, but I did pair
my -117 and my Cyclone when I was working the CW traffic nets in the 70's.
I had dual receive on split and could run transcieve using the -117 vfo. It
was great because I could hear my on-air signal to monitor my keying. Also,
on SB the -117 was a better receiver than the Cyclone - - much quieter,
more sensitive and better selectivity. Being able to move the BFO around
was a plus.
