Beware.

I don't know what the setscrews are in most of the knobs, but in the SX-42 
we*  were working on yesterday, the setscrews in the bandspread knob:

- are SPLINE, not "allen" or normal hex.
- are accessed through a hole in the main tuning knob
- are two in number - don't assume you have it after you've loosened only one.

Notes:
1) we took off this knob to get a drop or two of oil into the centermost 
locking knob shaft.  This cured an annoying noise when the bandspread knob 
was tuned quickly.
2) Very nice stick-on replacements for the locking knob arrow are 
available. See the above web link.
