My unit is the same as that you describe. I wonder if the light green might
be susceptible to fading maybe?

Subject: [Hallicrafters] SP-44 letter colouring

I've been working on reviving an SP-44. A previous owner had been under
the chassis replacing
caps and resistors. It looked like a very neat job, with orange drops
and 1/2W 10% metal oxides.
However, the thing didn't work at all. It turned out, after a few
measurements, that a grid resistor
that should have been 510k had been replaced by a 5.1k, and, one of the
few capacitors that had
not been replaced was in fact faulty! With those things fixed. the SP-44
works like a charm.

I guess the moral of this is: you can be as neat as you like, and use
the best quality components
you can find, but it's a waste of time if you don't use same value
replacements, and stop short of
checking everything :-)

But my question is: on the front panel of this SP-44, the "the
Hallicrafters co" and "MODEL SP-44"
are in light green ink, whereas the rest of the lettering is white. (The
light green is the same green as
used for the lettering on the chrome panel of the SX62.)

Yet, all the other SP-44s I have seen photos of, do not appear to have
this green lettering. I'd
be interested to know if this is as unusual as it appears?

Thanks!
Julian
