[Hallicrafters] Price range of SX 28

Have located a hallicrafters SX 28 receiver. Haven't
seen it and don't know electrical or physical
condition. Fellow, who has it, asked me to call him
back in about a week. He is going to put it on a
variac and bring it up slowly to see if it functions.

Are there different models of the SX 28? Are some
models more desirable than others?

How do I decide price to pay given various conditions
such as:

1. Cosmetically good and electrically good
(unrestored)  lights up and receives fair?

2. Cosmetically fair/average but electrically lights  
   lights only?

3. Cosmetically poor and electrically inoperative
except lights up?

4. Cosmetically poor and DOA?

If you have a better way of categorizing the
condition, please do and please give me your input
about value or top price to pay for each category.

The person who owns the SX 28 bought it from a person
he knew several years ago and brought it home and
never fired it up. He doesn't know what its'
electrical condition is but as I said he is going to
power it up and check it for operation.

I don't have an SX 28 and would like to acquire one
for my Hallicrafters "Pack Rat Nest".

Your input, based upon knowledge and experience will
be appreciated. Your input regarding what to look for
and PIT_FALLS OF THE SX 28 will be greatly appreciated
