One more step is useful after the above.  Un-solder the two 5v filament 
leads from the rectifier socket and tape them off.  This reduces the chance 
for a HV to filament winding short, which is generally fatal to the 
transformer.  Many 32V series exciter owners have learned this the hard way 
with the low voltage B+ supply.
