Actually, the more correct quote is

Illegitimi non-crborundum.

Illegitimus is singular whereas illegitimi is plural. 
The liberal translation of illegitimus being "bastard"
and that of illegitimi being "bastards".  The more
literal translation of illegitimus is "male child of
dubious birth" and of illegitimi is "male children of
dubious birth".
