The US Navy also used these receivers for "intercept" of Japanese SUBMARINE
RADARS. The Japanese radar sets were only about 2-4 mcs away from ours.
They didn't have the ability to pick ours up, but the reverse was in our
favor. Later on, sharp skippers learned to get a bearing from the Jap sub,
using the intercepted radar signal, and fire a spread of torps' by the fix
only - worked like a champ, and after-war interviews of Jap sub crews
revealed that many of 'em had no idea of where the shot came from.
Info first heard from old Chiefs at Fleet Anti-Submarine Warfare School, San
Diego - I was a staff communicator at COMTRAPAC - lots of great stories and
lore there.
