Hi John,
Living near the coast we get inversion all the time and this did not sound
nor act like the type of inversion we get. Usually it is not that specific
in nature in terms of a single point contact/area and is more general in
terms of frequency. For example all of 2 meters and the marine band will be
open over a wide area. But then again maybe it is just that, not what I am
used to in terms of inversion

This is caused by an atmospheric inversion and is not totally uncommon. I
used to operate a lot of 2 meter mobile back in the 70s and 80s and had
similar
experiences several times a year. I don't have 2 in the shack where I now
do
most of my operating, so I have no idea if this is still happening.
