Have a nice HT-37 in the "to be restored" queue here too so have been 
following this thread with some interest.   Had previous experience with phasing rigs 
having brought a Gonset GSB-100 
up on the air some years ago.   The following points stick in my mind.

One MUST have a scope to line one of these things up.   

Finding the correct set of adjustments to get both upper and lower sidebands 
coming out right can be tricky and takes a while.

Expect to have to realign periodically, especially if left idle for extended 
periods.

Nice sounding output, SSB and AM.


The GSB-100 used a crystal to null out the carrier in addition to the usual 
carrier balance adjustments.   Worked FB.   Big box, small output though.   
Single 6DQ5 PA.   Expect the 37 with a pair of 6146s will be much better.   Plan 
to pair it with my SX-42.
