[Hallicrafters] SX-28A "deaf" on higher bands

Hi All,

Seeking a bit of advice; I've just bought a very nice SX-28A receiver which
appears to have spent its life until the year 2000 sealed in the packing
case it was shipped in. The recent owner changed the two electrolytic caps
in the PSU as the originals failed, and apart from the replacement of the
line cord, this appears to be all the work done since the RX left Chicago. I
have fired it up and it works, but I think there is a problem with the RF
preselector stage, as there is loads of gain and good S meter readings on
the 550kc to 3.0Mc bands but things are very quiet on the HF bands, falling
away to very little on 20 metres. Before I start ripping out the RF section
(!) has anyone come across this problem? What are the chances of the
decouplers surviving all this time without use? A quick tube swap failed to
improve things and there are no distressed components visible under chassis.

Any advice welcomed,

Roger Basford/G3VKM
