For sale: perfectly restored Hallicrafters SX-42 front panel. This
panel has been completely stripped (bead blasted), repainted and
silkscreened. It looks factory new (actually, the paint's much better
than original).
This is a spare panel that was prepared during the exhaustive "ground
up" restoration I did of my personal SX-42. The panel is absolutely
identical to the one on my receiver which can be viewed at
www.aerialacts.com/SX-42_panel_full.jpg . NOTE: this is a very large
photo file so that you can see the panel in detail.
The price is $150.00 shipped domestically. Yes, it's expensive, but
that's actually what it cost to have done. I'm making no profit on this,
but would like to see the panel used to preserve another wonderful '42.
I also have another panel in unrestored condition available for $55.00
shipped. It's in wonderful, excellent original condition with no
corrosion. It does have one blemish, though. The "Model SX-42" legend
in the top left hand corner has been removed by a former owner (who
knows why!) and a scar has been left where the lettering was. This
could be repaired with touch up paint and Letraset lettering, I suppose,
or just left alone. This, also, is what I paid for the piece.
Another photo (also very large) shows my restored receiver and its
companion R-42 Reproducer. The speaker was originally a rusted hulk I
bought from a fellow in Alaska. It certainly showed the effects of that
harsh climate. I replaced all the innards (speaker driver, switch,
caps, dampening material) and sent the cabinet out for renovation. It
was stripped, powder coated and silkcreened, too. The photo's at
www.aerialacts.com/SX-42 & R-42.jpg . If you'd like your R-42 (and/or
SX-42 cabinet) restored to these standards, it can be arranged through
my friend Bob Sullivan (W0YVA). His great website is at
www.isquare.com. Click on the "Are you an Amateur Radio Operator?"
entry on the left-hand drop down menu and prepare to be dazzled!
I've recently streamlined my shack --considerably -- and am now using my
narration and voiceover studio gear to drive my little Ten Tec Pegasus
computer controlled transceiver (hey, at least I'm still on the air).
