I could not agree more. I restored a 1946 six tube verson with tuneable BFO
I bought from Ken Gordon, W7EKB, (this was the first version according to
the Hallicrafters book) and was astounded that once all new caps a few new
resistors were replaced, the alignment on the HP generator was almost
perfect. I have had this happen on several other Hallis I have restored
including a SX-71 and an SX-100.

The performance out of the S-38 (mine, anyway) was nothing short of
outstanding for its price class. I still use that set regularly and have a
lot of fun with it even on today's crowded bands.
