I agree that the SX-117 is a great receiver and works very well with the
HT-44 transceiver. We used the pair on Field day as the 20 meter station
feeding my old Gonset tri-bander (yes Gonset made antennas).
Worked great on SSB and the CW op liked the break in and the HA-4 keyer we
had.

The dial calibration was quite good for a fairly inexpensive receiver
(compared to the Sx-115 or Collins 75S3). It took get used to as the dial
tuned backwards tune up to go down. The triple conversion was the main
positive but the filter guys looked down at the phasing SSB. The
replacement pair were not nearly as good in my opinion but Bill Junior told
me it had to be better as the HT-46 was a filter rig.

Jump forward to today and try to figure out how SSB is generated. One rig
that was close to software designed using the PC was actually phasing
generated.
I asked the designer why and he said its well known that a phasing rig
properly designed and tuned produces better communications audio that a
filter design.

Stay with the SX-117 and you won't regret it.
