WOW!!!   What a list and what a response!!  

To all that responded, my sincerest thank you.  As most of you noted, a
decision like this is going to be based on subjective criteria almost as
much as it is based on intended usage and performance.  

Before I compile the responses that were off list so I can share them
(anon), I need to ask one of my key questions again because no one responded
to it.  

This question is much more important to me now after receiving all your
comments.  Here is the question again:

"....who is the one person you would send it (SX-117) to for repair,
alignment, with full confidence it will come back working as good as or
better than new?"

To keep this from becoming a sensitive issue for anyone (your best ham
friend worked on your SX-117 and screwed it up! HI HI eh, maybe not too
funny!!), please send your very candid responses offline, but please send
them.  I promise that individual feedback will not be shared.  If someone
asks for the results, the input will be "sanitized" and I will be happy to
compile the feedback for anyone who asks.
