[Hallicrafters] SX-117 or Not!

Hi Chris,
On paper the SX-117 should be a poor man's SX-115, but in my opinion
after owning 2 it is not worthy of that title.
    5 yrs ago I did a comparison of the SX-117, SX-101A, and SX-115, all
of which I owned at that time. It's a long 2-part writeup, it'd be much
easier for me to post it all here (again) in a text email than to send it
out as an attachment to those who might like to see it. It's 2 full pages
in MSWord, so it's long. It'll make a very long post to the reflector,
but much easier for me. You might find the posts in the Apr. 2000
archives.
Cut to the chase -- the SX-115 is hands down the best of the 3. The
SX-117 comes up 3rd, again in my opinion. I use my SX-115 weekly, I've
used the SX-101A sparingly lately, but have had it on over the weekend
until last nite, for some general listening. I have owned and used
several other 101's, so know them pretty well. My present SX-117 has been
sitting for a long time awaiting my returning attn to try again to get the
first stage "preselector" aligned properly.
