Hey, I resent those remarks....just kidding.  I worked in the Icy
industry for 30 years....hahaha. And I know what is meant by
incinerated circuits because I have seen this happen. My company
(National Semiconductor) made high power voltage regulators that
required "stress test" burn-in under full load on open racks. I was
working late one night when I heard loud popping noises and looked
into the room where this testing was going on and holes were being
blown open in metal TO-3 power transistor packages.  I have also seen
melt-down in the plastic packages so I am very familiar with
incinerated circuits.

BTW, Mike, NSC made a line of LED's and the product line was very
productive, achieving nearly 100 percent yields. All the normal
devices were labeled LED's and the others were labeled DED's which
stands for Dark Emitting Diodes.....

So here is the daffynition:

Since we are defining things in technology, I thought you might like
this example. It works better if you can draw it out on a piece of
paper when you relate it to someone.

Draw a bug with many legs and a smile on his face.  I use a simple
drawing of something like a sow bug or potato bug (and other names in
various parts of the country).  Since this bug has many legs you label
it as a centimeter (cm). 

Now draw the same bug, on its back, with legs pointing skyward and a
sad face.  You label this bug as an ERG, because everyone knows that
an erg is a dyne-cm!

Just to get this back on topic, I am pretty sure there are a few ergs
in each Hallicrafters radio. A spray with an effective insecticide
before restoring is a good practice.

I thought the transistor was some kind of three-legged fuse.  And
those Icy Chips were dead bugs.

Maybe this alien technology was captured at Roswell when the flying
saucer crashed.

Another definition of a tube is "Light Emitting Glass Enclosed Field
Effect Transistor."
